Understanding and Managing Teams

SUMMARY OF UNIT

Within this unit you will gain an understanding of the key factors that influence the successful management of teams. This will include as aspiring leaders in middle leadership roles the ability to both manage up and manage down. Finally, we will explore how the importance of team roles impact on team performance.


LEARNING OUTCOMES

By completing this unit, trainees are expected to:

• Describe team roles and the key components to achieving a balanced team
• Discuss team roles and team development in the context of their own organisation
• Reflect on how leaders influence and manage teams
• Explain the key areas of effective management up and management down
• Differentiate between different leadership styles and how they influence team performance
• Discuss effective communication to support effective team management
